About

My name is Tim Oudin and, professionally, I’m part Virualization Engineer and part VMware fan boy.  For more see my professional blog!

Aside from technology I’m a homebrewer and beer snob.  I’m a big fan of American and British style pale ale and IPA.  I love hoppy beers and, generally, am not a Belgian fan but I’ll never turn down a Three Philosophers, Maredsous or Chimay Red.  I’ve recently built a kegerator holding 2 cornelius (soda) kegs for my bar in the basement.  Unfortunately, it’s just not enough.  I want room for at least 4 kegs as the wife and I have slightly differing tastes and I need to have beers for both of us on tap.

I’ve recently started modding my new(ish) Subaru WRX.  So far I’ve limited mods to a full exhaust, performance springs and a tune using an off the shelf Cobb map with Cobb’s AccessPort.  The power gains are very noticeable and I’m relatively content for now.  I’m still planning on some further upgrades next summer.  The next round of mods will be sway bars and end links to eliminate some of the body roll.  There isn’t really much roll but compared to my MINI it’s really pronounced.

My old mountain bike has recently been rehabed and I’ve just started riding again.  The bike is a 1993 Kona Hot.  This was one of the frames not only built in the U.S. but was hand built by Tom Teesdale.  I quit riding after leaving southern California in ’94, the mountains were never the same anywhere I went.  The places I’ve been just don’t compare but I’m taking up riding anyway.

I’ve finally started road biking as well, I bought a Specialized Allez.  The Twin Cities have an extensive and well maintained bike trail network.  I can’t give up the mountain biker roots though, I don’t wear silly jerseys or the lycra shorts.  I’ll stick to the padded baggy shorts along with keeping my mountain bike shoes with SPD pedals on the road bike.

Kayaking has recently become a new fascination.  I’m looking forward to some trips up to the great lakes for some paddling and seeking out a few lower class rapids.
